VALPARISO, INDIANA – Creativity goes a long way, all for a good cause. Winners of the 2022 Child Abuse Prevention Month received certificates and prizes as part of their creativity for the coloring contest. Community Partners — a program of Geminus Corporation, member of the Regional Care Group — partnered with the Porter County Department of Child Services to host the 2022 Child Abuse Prevention Month coloring contest to bring awareness and promote child abuse prevention in Porter County. “It is great to see the community get involved with something as special and important as this,” said Nicholas Neal, vice-president of Community Services at Geminus Corporation. The grand prize winner, Elijah Hernandez, a fifth-grader from Myers Elementary School in Portage, received a certificate and art kit, and won a bike and helmet. Along with the prizes, his artwork will be the design for Porter County Child Abuse Prevention Month T-shirts next year. Eleven Porter County elementary schools participated in the contest, with students from kindergarten to first grade submitting hundreds of poster entries. Sixty winners were chosen, and all winning entries received a certificate and a new art kit. “The more we educate our communities on child abuse prevention and bring awareness to the resources and services provided by Community Partners and DCS, the better children and family lives will be,” Neal said. “We want to continue to make sure people know assistance is available if they need it. We want everyone to be taken care of.” If you and your family need assistance, please contact Geminus Community Partners at 866-641-7181.
